Action Calendar

2023-03-23

Dear friend,

What's happening in Montpelier today?

Whether you're a Representative coming to work in the morning or a member of the public, the answer can be found on the Action Calendar.

A lot of Reps still use the print copy printed by the Clerk.

The Action Calendar for Thursday, March 23, 2023 - as seen from Seat 26

Most Reps access the Action Calendar on their tablet or laptop, and so can you.

The Action Calendar is on the Legislature homepage under "The House of Representatives" heading.

House Calendar - today’s PDF

The Action Calendar is part of the House Calendar. It covers what bills the House will be discussing today.

The second part of the House Calendar is the Notice Calendar. This section puts us on notice that the bills listed will be heard at an upcoming date.

The third part is the Consent Calendar. This is a list of House Continuing Resolutions that are in the process of being approved. These resolutions commonly honor one or more Vermonters for their deeds, or recognizing events.

The House approves many bills by voice votes, and many of those votes are unanimous. After being worked on in committee, approved by a vote of one or more committees, and presented by a member of that committee, many bills are approved without further discussion on the House floor. These bills are important and help keep Vermont running well.

Examples of bills like this are:

  • H. 288 Liability for the sale of alcoholic beverages

  • H. 473 Radiologist assistants

  • H. 476 Miscellaneous changes to law enforcement officer training laws

On the other hand, today's Action Calendar contains several bills on which there is not unanimity. Some of those bills are:

  • H. 230 Implementing mechanisms to reduce suicide

  • H. 483 The accountability and oversight of approved independent schools that are eligible to receive public tuition

  • H. 66 Paid family and medical leave insurance

  • H. 126 Community resilience and biodiversity protection

  • H. 127 Sports wagering

  • H. 165 School food programs and universal school meals

I'm writing this at 5:18 p.m. We've been on the floor since 1 p.m. We're breaking from 5:30 to 6 p.m. to eat sandwiches while we review final tweaks to the Capital Bill in our committee room. Then we'll be back on the House floor, and planning to go well into the evening on these bills.

You can:

What's on tomorrow's Action Calendar for the House session at 9:30 a.m.? We'll see when the Clerk of the House posts it later tonight.
