Dear friend,

"I have less than three hours to make cookies. I can do that."

What are you doing for New Year's?

Felix is making oatmeal-raisin cookies for later. After looking over the fridge, I've decided I'm making something with bacon, leftover mashed potatoes, and green leek tops. With melted Vermont cheddar.

And then something really bland for Alison, like ground beef with rice.

Nevermind. The beef smell made her nauseous. Just rice -- simple things do best.

Tonight, I'm feeling grateful for my son, my partner, and our whole Vermont community. Thank you for being on this journey with our family in 2023.

A friend texted: "Happy almost new year! My desire for 2024 is absolutely nothing happens!"

I wrote back: "a soothing and unexpected thought."

Tomorrow starts 2024 and your Vermont Legislature gavels in on January 3 at 10 a.m., remaining in session till May.

We will hold a joint session on January 4 at 2 p.m. to hear the State of the State address by Governor Phil Scott.

Once we get up and running, I feel as though a lot of stuff is going to move fast.

For tonight -- a moment of slowness.

Here's an essay that I just posted with some family news: Here’s to a pregnant 2024!

Thanks for reading! Happy New Year.

Send your family news, please... see you in 2024!

Love,

Rep. Tristan Roberts
Halifax, Vermont

P.P.S. Thank you to our friend Kelly Fletcher in Guilford for taking some family portraits this fall. Here's Kelly's website.
