We have a new baby and his name is Loie
2024-08-04
Dear friend,
I'm excited to share that we have welcomed new healthy baby boy to Earth!
Alison gave birth here at home on Quill Nook Farm, Halifax, Vermont in the wee hours of Friday morning, 3:21 a.m., July 26, 2024! The baby was born 7 pounds, 7 ounces, and he's feeding and sleeping well. Alison did an amazing job in giving birth, and I'm so happy to say that she is also doing well.
Not that anyone was counting, but after six days, we also named, or received the name, of this boy.
Please help us welcome Loie Roberts!
A little about Loie:
means "understanding"
pronounced "low-ee," also the same as "Low-e" windows
is the most unbreakable string on the guitar, as Alexis pointed out
The baby's full name is Loie Quirijn Einstein Roberts.
"Quirijn" is a Dutch name in the family that I can more easily tell you in person how to pronounce. Another family name is "Einstein" from the German side (means "one stone" in German, or a stoneworker, which fits around here). We affectionately call him "Loie Q" ....
we even were able to make it out to the Halifax Clambake at the last minute. thanks Nancy for giving us your tickets!
me and Fe and the bebe
yep, that's Loie Q's lunch on my shorts. as they say, spit happens.
I'm trying to be in the moment and not take too many pictures and not go on social media. But sometimes I just need to record 26 seconds of Loie stretching and yawning and blinking as he wakes up from a nap, and I'm happy to share if this kind of thing brightens your world. Just text me. Or better yet, come on by in person and meet the baby.
And that's the news from Quill Nook Farm.

How are you doing? What are you birthing, or witnessing, or up to?
One thing I'm working on is feeling into the radical presence of a human baby, and not stressing about anything else.
Loie's due date (or Birdie, as we were calling the fetus) was August 3rd, and everyone including our amazing midwives(Sacred Transitions: "Keep birth local") had a hunch the baby would come late.
We were prepared to be patient, and I had mentally reserved the next two weeks as the time when I would achieve the illusionary goal of getting "caught up" on all the emails, clean the house, and move the piglets to their new pasture.
As luck would have it, the baby came a week early and demonstrated through his very existence that none of that stuff matters. As Patti Pusey reminded me: "People make plans, and God laughs."
Here's hoping you are well and not stressing the small stuff (and it's all small stuff).
Love,
Tristan
